3x32 shelf connector
Connections between the SPM and the system occur across a female DIN 41612 type
connector. It is located about midway along the length of the shelf side of the card. A mating
connector is mounted in the shelf that accepts the SPM. This connector, too, is three rows (A, B,
and C) of 32 pins each.
Power connector
A male 1x3 module-type power connector is used for power connections to the shelf. It is
located at the bottom of the shelf side of the card. For a description of the signals, see Power on
page 21.
Shelf ground headers
The SPM provides an installer-configurable connection between Shelf Ground and Logic Ground
specified by the PICMG† 3.0 Revision 2.0 AdvancedTCA† Base Specification through three 3-
pin headers in the vicinity of the SPM’s face plate. On each header, the pins closest to the face
plate are connected to Shelf Ground, and the middle pin is connected to Logic Ground. Shunts
(part no. 040-01673-0000) can be ordered from RadiSys and installed to connect those pins.
PIM interfaces
The SPM’s PIM site has a standard interface for Jn0/Jn4 that complies with the VITA 36
standard. The PIM site uses 2x32 female connectors.
Figure 10. PIM connector contact numbering
The mating height of these connectors is 3 mm greater than the standard 10-mm standoff
height for PIMs. This is required in order to keep the ejector latch at the top of the SPM from
interfering with the PIM panel. 3-mm swage spacers are installed on the card at the four
mounting holes to compensate for the connector height.
If all blades and modules do not connect Shelf Ground and Logic Ground, the Logic Ground can become a
significant current path for shelf differentials, but with limited contact points. The current would focus in the
places where it is connected.
